For close to a decade now, Auto Parts Group
has promoted its certified parts brand, Q Parts,
to the crash repair industry. Q Parts are
aftermarket parts that have been certified by
either CAPA, Thatcham TÜVRheinland or NSF.
Given CAPA’s history in the certified parts
space globally, robust certification Standards
and extensive reach in terms of testing facilities,
Stephen Campbell, Managing Director of Auto
Parts Group, felt the Group was in the best
position to help drive forward aftermarket
certified parts for the Australian market.
“We are very proud and excited to partner
CAPA into the Australian market. This is a huge
leap forward in the certified parts space which
will provide benefit to insurers and body shops
as regards parts quality, repair efficiency and
cost savings,” Mr Campbell said.
APG, CAPA and CAPA’s validator, Intertek,
have had a long association. CAPA’s
certification, tailored for the Australian
marketplace, will include local Vehicle Test Fits
(VTF) to ensure CAPA certified parts have OEM
equivalence of fit, form and function for
Australia’s domestic car parc.
Benefits of the CAPA program include
production testing and an independent validator,
Intertek. Intertek engineers conduct rigorous in-
factory monitoring and inspections to ensure
CAPA’s high standards continue to be met, even
after a part has been certified.
Intertek is responsible for the audit and
approval of the manufacturers’ factory and
quality systems. This is followed by extensive
verification of the part which includes material
identification, construction, coating and
performance including the CAPA originated VTF.
The ultimate goal is to ensure the aftermarket
part characteristics meet or
exceed those of the
comparable OEM part.
Intertek also conducts CAPA-
required random market
inspections of certified parts

market to ensure the program

AM parts currently comprise 17 percent of
the total parts repair cost, with combined
alternative parts usage (AM, recycled OEM and

increased from 1.2 parts in 2009

percent. This coincides with an
increase of 260 percent in the
availability of certified parts.

This new partnership between Auto Parts
Group and CAPA will position Q Parts as the only
Australian certification program that is truly
independent. Reducing total losses and
repairing more vehicles through the use of high
quality alternative parts is good for the
automotive industry, good for insurers and good
for consumers. Reduction in parts costs
ultimately benefits consumers as savings can be
passed on through more affordable premiums.
Ensuring parts are independently verified to be
as of a high standard provides safety for all
Australians sharing the road together.
