For this reason, water separation fuel filtration is
gaining a following worldwide. Audi, for instance,
has now opted to introduce the water separation
concept for diesel fuel filters in numerous
models. The filter system is especially prevalent
for countries that have high water content in fuel.
Mann+Hummel develops high performance
diesel fuel filter systems for the requirements of
many different markets worldwide, and thus

The technical highlight in the Mann+Hummel
range is the new diesel fuel filter with a three-
stage water separation. Audi will fit the
multi-stage filter system to numerous diesel
models. This is set to launch in regions with high
water content in the diesel fuel.
The filter will be used in North and South
America, Russia and Asia, as well as India. Due
to the higher fuel quality found in western and
eastern Europe, a version of the diesel fuel filter
without water separation was developed in
parallel for the SUVs of the Volkswagen group.
“The orders for various applications received for
Audi and other models of the Volkswagen Group
once again confirm the exceptional performance
of our three-stage water separation technology,”
R&D Engineer for Filter Elements and Filter
Media, Martin Veit said.
The new fuel filter modules designed for Audi
meet the requirements for use with modern diesel
fuels to ensure maximum protection for the
injection system against particles and water.
In initial condition, the filter separates 93
percent of the water and achieves excellent
performance over the service life of the filter.
The filter element with integrated water
separation is equipped with a handle which
enables easy replacement of the filter in the car
workshop. A screw integrated in the housing
cover also enables user-friendly water discharge
from the top.
In the development of diesel fuel filter systems,
Mann+Hummel opts for a modular strategy which
enables use of common parts for the different
diesel fuel filter modules.
For the version with water separation, the two
new filter systems for Audi have a number of
identical parts. This includes the filter element
with three-stage water separation, the
corresponding molded seal, the water sensor and
the discharge screw. The filter bowl is also almost
identical. The only difference is with the flange
pattern to attach the respective filter cover.
Advantages at a glance:
• Highly efficient particle filtration and water
• Reliable protection for the injection system
• Excellent performance over lifetime of the
• Easy to service concept
• Environmentally-friendly, metal-free filter

POWER ON THE GO
Projecta upgrades 120W folding solar
Enhancements to Projecta’s popular SPP120K,
12V 120W bi-folding solar panel kit are set to
deliver a number of benefits for users looking to
invest in a high quality, portable kit.
Formerly using polycrystalline technology, the
new release adopts superior monocrystalline
hardware, resulting in an overall size and weight
reduction while maintaining the same power
output of its predecessor.
For added stability and durability, the SPP120K
now features an all-black frame, supported by
hardwearing steel legs which replace the
previous unit’s aluminium legs.
Other benefits include a new heavy duty metal
handle and double latch set-up, which ensures
the unit remains secure when removed from its
durable canvas carry bag.
The SPP120K also introduces an upgraded three
stage solar control unit, improving charging and

The kit retains its handy five metre lead with
battery clips, allowing the panels to be set-up in
full sunlight while the vehicle or caravan remains
in the shade.
Ready to use straight out of the bag, the
SPP120K is ideal for directly powering small
appliances and for charging batteries required to
service larger appliances in caravans,
motorhomes or at any off the grid locations.
The SPP120K solar panel kit is one of four
Projecta bi-folding solar panel kits and is
available nation-wide from leading camping,
caravanning and 4x4 accessories outlets.
