The 32nd Annual General Meeting of the AAAA was
held on October 15, 2012 in Sydney.
At that meeting we were pleased to announce that
2011/12 was another highly successful year for the
Association across all of our key performance indicators.
The financial result was a loss before tax of
This compared favorably to the budgeted loss of
The after tax result was a loss of $655,038 compared
to a profit last year of $1,343,048.
It is traditional and important to look at the operating
results over a two-year cycle, because of the significant
effect of the Trade Show, which occurs every second year.
Trade Show revenue is critical to support the
operations of the Association in providing ongoing
services to members.
Based on this approach the overall profit after tax
from all activities for 2010/11 and 2011/12 was
This compares with the results for the two years
2009/10 and 2010/11, which had a combined profit of
Although non-Trade Show revenue continues to
increase, the other major factor in this two-year result
comparison is additional operating expenses -- which are
a consequence of the higher level of member-support
activities being undertaken by the Association.
Membership numbers increased by a very pleasing 17
percent over the course of the year with our Association
now representing 1675 companies employing more than
30,000 people and exporting $800 million in product
each year in a sector that turns over an estimated $11
billion per annum in Australia.
A highlight was the decision by the Repco Authorised
Service Group to join all 331 of their workshops as
members of the AAAA.
We also achieved a real retention rate of over 95
percent of existing members indicating that the
overwhelming majority of members saw value in
continuing their membership.
Our government relations and advocacy activity also
took another big leap forward as our profile and influence
continues to increase.
Major highlights included the development of our
submission to the Commonwealth Consumer Affairs
Advisory Council review into data sharing in the
automotive industry and the related follow up activities.
As a result we are now in a strong position to secure
a positive outcome on this critical industry issue.
We also achieved good outcomes with the state
transport regulators in the area of modifications to
vehicles fitted with ESC and suspension lifts.
The Australian Auto Aftermarket and Collision Repair
Expo continues to go from strength to strength with the
2011 event breaking new records for exhibitor and visitor
Our next Expo will be held at the Sydney Exhibition
Centre from 11-13 April next year and we are very pleased
to report that we have completely sold out of exhibition
space in the Auto Expo and only have only a small amount
of space left to sell in the Collision Repair Expo.
Attracting over 350 exhibitors and 10,000 domestic
and international trade visitors, the 2013 Expo will
showcase a comprehensive range of automotive
aftermarket parts, accessories, tools and equipment from
the industry's leading companies and brands and will
feature a range of seminars, networking events and our
Awards to Industry Program.
2012/2014 National Council Announced
The 2012/14 National Council election results were
also announced at the AGM following a record number
of ballots received.
We would like to welcome newly elected councillors
Peter Rogers from Inspired Automotive Marketing,
Anthony Goerke from Australian Truck & Auto Parts and
Rob Cameron from Exego Automotive Specialist Group to
the National Council, together with returning National
Councillors Bob Pattison, Paul Dumbrell and Nicholas
With representation from all mainland states and a
strong blend of industry experience and knowledge of the
various segments of the AAAA membership, we believe
that the current AAAA National Council is well positioned
to provide strong leadership and strategic direction for
the Association moving forward.
