Home' Australian Automotive Aftermarket Magazine : Australian Auto Aftermarket E-zine December Contents Dyno Dynamics, a leading Australian manufacturer of vehicle dynamometers, has released a new budget-priced high quality
4WD dyno that costs about 40 percent less than premium priced competitors.
The new Dynotech 4WD maintains the same
premium grade materials, components and
structural integrity found in more expensive Dyno
Dynamics models, but a more simplified and
streamlined production process has resulted in
considerable savings in manufacturing costs.
The Dynotech 4WD is designed to suit a wide
range of all-wheel drive vehicles, from high
performance Japanese imported sedans like the
Subaru WRX, Mitsubishi EVO and Nissan GT-R to
all types of SUVs to the largest Ford F350 or
Chevrolet Silverado 4x4 pickup trucks.
It will work equally as well with conventional
2WD cars, be they front-wheel drive or rear-wheel
The simple and rugged design of the value-
packed Dynotech 4WD consists of front and rear
500 Series 2WD dyno beds, joined together by a
series of interlocking steel 'fingers' that can slide
within each other to adjust the distance between
the two beds.
These fingers form a strong central platform
which a vehicle can be driven across to access
the front dyno bed, then with the push of a
button the platform's length can be easily
extended or retracted to line up the vehicle's
back wheels with the rear rollers.
The robust electronics have also been
redesigned with new software and a more
simplified operating system, so that all vehicle
tuning requirements can now be done externally
using a laptop computer.
The Dynotech 4WD can safely replicate
driven speeds of up to 250km/h and each dyno
bed can withstand power outputs of up to 1200
horsepower individually, giving the dyno a
combined power output capacity of 2500
It is manufactured in Australia using the
highest quality materials, including Frenelsa
magnetic retarder units which are widely
regarded as the best available in the world.
The four high precision steel rollers, which
can rotate at speeds up to 6000rpm, are made
by Dyno Dynamics in-house and dynamically
balanced to the same exacting tolerances as gas
They also feature specially machined facings
designed to create the same co-efficient of
friction as tyres on bitumen so that all readings
are as 'real world' as possible.
It comes with a 12-month Dyno Dynamics
factory warranty and is backed by a quality range
of spare parts and accessories.
Dyno Dynamics Managing Director, Alan
Evans, said the value-packed Dynotech 4WD has
been designed to find solutions to cost and work
safety challenges faced by today's automotive
"The ability to get out and road test a
customer's car these days is becoming more and
more difficult, because finding a local road on
which you can legally do more than 100km/h is
not easy," he said.
"There is always the risk of mechanics getting
speeding fines or even worse, crashing a car,
doing this kind of diagnostic and tuning work.
"And some customers are just not happy that
their car is out on the road being driven around
by someone they don't know has the competency
to drive it safely."
Mr Evans said these workplace risks also
require proprietors to have substantial insurance
cover in the event of an accident or personal
injury, which can attract premiums costing many
thousands of dollars a year.
"On a dyno you can do in 10 minutes what it
could take you an hour to do on the road, there's
no risk of fines or crashes and insurance
premiums can be greatly reduced," he said.
"The Dynotech 4WD has been priced to make
it an affordable option for many businesses, with
the kind of build quality that can withstand the
daily rigours of dyno work and the toughest of
working conditions year after year."
