Monroe GT Sport
It might be the spring that physically lowers the car, but it is the shocks which ensure the
The length of the shock absorber plays no
part in the lowering of the car, it all comes
down to the size of the spring which is why
the combination of shock absorber and
spring is vitally important.
Monroe's GT Sport body and piston rod
have been shortened to ensure a lowered ride
without compromising on comfort.
For the front shocks, the shortened body
gives extra bump travel while the shorter rod
ensures the shorter coil spring does not come
loose when it is fully extended.
For rear shocks, the main reason for the
shorter rod, and hence the shorter overall
shock length, is to ensure the coil spring is
retained at all times and does not become
loose when fully extended.
Typically, the bump rubbers are separate
from both the spring and shock absorber on
rear suspension designs.
Monroe uses the same award-winning oil
for the GT Sport product as it uses for its GT
It's the highest grade oil which has been
specifically formulated for Monroe shock
absorbers worldwide and is low fade.
Monroe has applied its exclusive Reflex
technology to the GT Sport product, ensuring
optimum levels of performance, control and
handling without sacrificing ride comfort.
The GT Sport is specifically tuned to a
firmer, heavier spring designed by King
Springs and the valving has been altered
In technical terms, the valving in the
shock absorber has been modified to deliver
a softer compression stroke, thus minimising
any suspension harshness.
On rebound, however, oil flow has been
restricted to enable the shock absorber to
better control the spring.
While most bump stop rubbers are hard,
the specifically designed GT Sport bump stop
rubbers have been shortened and softened to
allow more travel and increase ride
smoothness, and they're part of the package
when you buy the shocks.
The GT Sport product can be used with
other springs that are comparable to King
For optimum performance and ride height
Monroe recommends King Springs.
The combination of a lower centre of
gravity and enhanced damping rates means
that vehicles fitted with the GT Sport product
have reduced body roll.
The vehicle is only at risk of scrubbing if
oversized tyres or the wrong offset rims are
fitted to the vehicle so the GT Sport will not
scrub tyres and a trailer can still be towed.
Camber should also be checked and
adjusted according to the OE specifications
whenever suspension or shock absorber
changes are made.
Lowering a vehicle is a major
modification, so load carrying ability must
always be evaluated.
In most cases, vehicles fitted with 'low'
springs will be best for light towing.
Improved suspension control means
steering will feel more responsive and no
heavier than prior to the fitment of the GT
As with any suspension change or
modification it is important to ensure the
correct wheel alignment settings are also
maintained to ensure maximum tyre life and
maximum handling characteristics.
